Tips to Preventing Erectile Dysfunction

So, you’re approaching middle age and you’re hearing the horror stories of impotence and inability to “get it up”.  You’re not alone.

Erectile dysfunction is rather common among aging men, actually, and quite frankly the best things you can do for your sexual health are really good for your health in general.

Here are a few things you should be doing:

Regular Exercise – If you want to live longer, live healthier, and enjoy more years of your sex life, studies have shown that even a brisk walk can improve your sexual health.  Sex in itself is exercise, and research also suggests more of it to fight off cardiovascular disease as well.

Stop Smoking -There are many, many reasons to quit smoking and your sexual health is one of them.  Smoking damages blood vessels over time and the penis is no exception.  You’ll enjoy sex and life far longer if you quit.  So quit.

Don’t Drink Too Much – Alcohol in large amounts will inhibit erections, but over time, you’ll do worse for your overall sexual health.  Cut back on alcoholic beverages.

Eat Well – Having a good diet will increase your overall health, including your cardiovascular system which is critical for strong erections and sex drive.

Get Plenty of Sleep – Fatigue will drain your desire to have sex.  Lack of sleep also increases stress and can set off hormone imbalances that will affect your sex life.  Make sure you’re on a regular sleep schedule and you’re getting enough good sleep at night.  You’ll feel more energetic when the moment comes.

These tips sound very basic, but they are supposed to be.  What is really being said is this:  Take care of yourself and you’ll enjoy sex much longer.   Sex is as physical as any sport or physical activity; if you’re lazy, smoking, drinking, eating excessive junk foods, and not sleeping enough, you can’t possibly expect a good sex life.

Of course, if you’re experiencing ED, it could be a symptom of something else (such as heart disease or prostate issues) and you should discuss it with your doctor immediately.  Only then can you be positive that your equipment is in good health and the steps you can take to prevent it.
